Paper mockups (cut a shape, set it on the cake) help a little, but they don’t show your actual design, your text, or the real proportions. You’re still mostly guessing.

A Few Quick Sizing Tips
Want a head start before you open the tool? These rules of thumb get you close:
- Aim for 60–75% of your cake’s main top dimension — the diameter on a round, the side on a square, the longer side on a sheet, or the widest width on a heart. That’s the proportion that looks “made for the cake.”
- Don’t drop below ~40% of the cake width, or the topper can look lost.
- Don’t go past ~90%, or it risks overhanging the edges.
- For standing toppers, height is taste. Anywhere from 0.75× to 1.5× the height of the cake looks good — shorter for subtle, taller for a statement.
- On a tiered cake, size to the top tier. That’s where the topper actually sits.
Quick example: an 8-inch round cake loves a topper around 5 to 6 inches wide. A 12-inch round can carry 7 to 9 inches. Plug your own numbers into the tool and watch it land in the green.
