Edible Image Size Guide: Oreos, Cupcakes, Cookies & Cakes

Getting the size right is the whole game with edible prints. Order a 1.25″ circle for a chocolate-covered Oreo and it floats in the middle; order a 7.5″ round for a 6″ cake and it drapes over the edge. We print custom edible images all day, so we built this so you never have to guess again.

The edible image size chart

8″, 9″, 10″ or 12″ round cake 7.5″ round (the standard full-size round)
Quarter sheet cake 8″×10.5″

Brands and molds vary — when in doubt, measure your actual item or just send us a photo.

Two rules that cover everything else

1. For a topper: order an image about 1″–1.5″ smaller than the top of the cake. That leaves a clean frosting border and keeps the print from sagging over the edge. (6″ cake → ~5″ image; 8″ cake → ~6.5″–7″ image.)

2. For a wrap-around: length = cake diameter × π (3.14), and the height = your cake’s height. A 6″ round needs a strip about 18.8″ long.

Quick answers for the most-asked items

Chocolate-covered Oreos. The sweet spot is a 2″ circle — big enough to cover the cookie face once it’s dipped, and the standard 15-per-sheet layout. Going on a bare Oreo instead? Drop to ~1.5″.

Cupcakes. A 2″ circle fits a standard cupcake perfectly and is the most economical (12–15 designs per sheet). Jumbo cupcakes take 2.5″–2.75″.

Cookies. Match the image to your cutter — 3″ is the everyday standard, but order to your actual cookie so the design reaches the edge.

Cakes. A 7.5″ round is the universal “full size” that suits 8″–12″ cakes; a 6″ round for 6″ cakes; 8″×10.5″ for a quarter sheet. Want the photo edge-to-edge with no border? Order it the full cake diameter and we’ll print to bleed.

Icing sheet or wafer paper?

Short version: if the image is the star — a photo, a logo, a sharp character — go icing (frosting) sheet for the brightest, most detailed print. If you want molded or 3-D decor (flowers, butterflies, sails) or you’re watching cost, wafer paper is your friend. Full breakdown in our wafer paper vs. icing sheets guide.

Frequently asked questions

What size edible image do I need for chocolate-covered Oreos?
A 2″ round circle. It covers the dipped cookie face and matches the standard 15-images-per-sheet layout. For a plain (un-dipped) Oreo, use ~1.5″.

What size edible image fits a standard cupcake?
A 2″ round. Jumbo cupcakes need 2.5″–2.75″.

What size edible image for a 6, 8, or 10 inch cake?
6″ cake → a 6″ round image (≈5″ if you want a border). 8″, 9″, 10″, and 12″ cakes all take the standard 7.5″ round.

How do I figure out the size for a cake wrap?
Multiply the cake’s diameter by 3.14 for the length, and use the cake’s height for the height. A 6″ round = ~18.8″ long.

Can you cut the images to size for me?
Yes — we print your custom edible images precut to any of the sizes above (or a custom shape), on icing sheets or wafer paper.
